Emilio Estefan Jr. Believes In Norka Luque And So Does The Latino World

Emilio Estefan Jr. has been producing great music since the 1970s. He hit the jackpot when he formed the Miami Latin Boys, which later became the Miami Sound Machine. Estefan decided to hire his future wife Gloria Fajardo as the lead singer for the Miami Latin Boys. Fajardo was an unknown in the music business. But when she recorded “Conga” in 1985, she became a worldwide singing sensation, and the Miami Sound Machine became the best Latino group of the decade. Emilio, Gloria, and the Mimi Sound Machine produced hit after hit in the 1980s, and at last count, Gloria Estefan has sold more than 100 million records worldwide. Emilio heard a unique sound coming from the young Fajardo when they first met, and Estefan got the same feeling when he first heard Norka Luque sing. Gloria and Norka have different styles and they have different ranges, but the same uniqueness was in both of them. Estefan calls it natural tone and rhythm.

Norka took the long way around to meet Estefan. She was born in Venezuela, and she grew up in Florida. She studied voice, and piano while she attended school in Miami. When she was eight, she was cast in a musical in Caracas, and she never forgot the experience. The music was an anthology of Shakira’s music. Shakira became her idol, and when Norka met Shakira for the first time, it was a monumental experience and one she will never forget.

Luque left Florida and moved to France to study business. She got a job singing with a small group while she studied, and that group, Bad Moon Rising, gave her the opportunity to develop her own style and music. Norka graduated with a Business Administration degree plus a degree in fashion and the culinary arts. She was hired by a Monte Carlo bank, and she worked in the finance industry for about a year before she decided to pursue a career in music.

When she found a job singing in a club on South Beach, Norka made an impression on the young club-goers. Word got back to Emilio that a new Latino artist was energizing dancers at a South Beach club, and he arranged a meeting. That was the day that Norka Luque’s life changed forever. Estefan agreed to produce her first album and he became her mentor. Norka is on the verge of breaking into the mainstream music world, and Estefan plans to be part of that breakthrough.
