Conflicts in Istanbul

A female bomber was spotted near a police station on Tuesday in connection to a possible suicide bombing. An assassination attempt against the security forces had already taken place on January 01, 2015.

According to Meida Reports, A woman suicide bomber attacked, on Tuesday, January 6, on a police station located in the Sultanahmet district of Istanbul, killing one policeman and wounding a second, said Vasip Sahin, the governor of the city.

According to City Governor, the woman spoke English when she entered the police station but her identity and nationality is still under question.

According to Qnet, the attack, which occurred around 17:00 (15:00 GMT), comes less than a week after a failed attack with grenades, on January 1, against police officers near office of the Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu in Istanbul.

The attack was claimed by the far left group DHKP-C (Revolutionary People’s Liberation Party-Front). The DHKP-C has already attacked several police stations in Turkey and claimed a suicide attack against the Embassy of the United States last year.

It is worth mentioning that the historic Sultanahmet district, is located in the heart of Istanbul, home to some of the most famous landmarks of the city, including the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia.
