More information on Zika Virus with Dr. Sergio Cortes

The Zika virus first emerged in the 1940’s, in African countries such as Uganda, Sierra Leone, and Tanzania. Dr. Sergio Cortes states that the virus has recently started to circulate again in 9 Latin American countries, such as Brazil, Mexico and Colombia. The first new case of Zika occurred in Brazil in April 2015. There have been a significant increase in the number of cases since then, and caused great concern among health experts throughout the country. Dr. Sergio Cortes is worried that this Zika Virus may have a link to microcephaly and Guillain-Barre syndrome. Guillaine-Barre syndrome is a very serious neurological and autoimmune disease. Dr. Sergio Cortes has broken down this virus into various topics to inform us more.
The Zika virus is not a contagious disease and cannot be spread from person to person. The only way to get this virus is through the bite of the type of mosquito, Aedes aegypti. Not only can a person catch this virus from the mosquito, a mosquito that does not contain this disease that may sting a person who is carrying it, will in turn then be infected itself with the disease. Thus making the breakout of the disease very hard to control.
Symptoms and Diagnosis
The symptoms of this virus are not aggressive and normally last anywhere from 3 to 7 days. Dr. Sergio Cortes states that symptoms vary from person to person, but most common are fever, rash, or muscle aches. There are no further tests or examinations to identify the disease, at this time . The only way to diagnose the Zika virus is through a complex exam, which is offered only by three units of Fiocruz across the country, and the Evandro Chagas Institute.
For now, the only way to determine if you have the disease is through observation of the symptoms listed. If you are having these symptoms, it is important to see the physician, regardless of the severity of the symptoms.
There is no specified way to treat this illness, but symptoms can be relieved, says Dr. Cortes. People infected with this disease can use anti-inflammotory drugs or pain killers (perscribed by a physician).
How to Prevent
Dr. Sergio Cortes recommends to stay away from free standing water of any type. This includes stagnant water in pots, bottles, tires, puddles, etc. It is recommended to eliminate any standing water areas that you may have. Screened netting on all windows and around bedding if at all possible. If you are near an area of potential threat to mosquitos and you can not access the area, please reach out the Municiple Health Department.

Traditions In Giving Back, Envelope The DeVos Family In Warmth

In, a recent article by Shandra Martinez, about Dick DeVos and his family’s charity warmth is placed in the hearts of many. There is something to be said about a family that gives to others. A heartwarming true tale to be told to the masses and it would be fantastic if more families were to build their fortune only to help the world and not just themselves, it is refreshing. It speaks to the idea that people see a persons worth by what they do in the world and not just by their material accomplishments. It is in what they do for the world that is so extremely appealing. The family over the time they have been giving, much more than most dream of in life, having given over 1 billion dollars. That is an astronomical amount but, it is very well received to various charities in need. Click on the following link to read to full article:

It is important to identify that those contributions to the greater good have absolutely nothing to do with other political donations. Dick is said to be conservatives and strong in his faith but, his giving to those organizations is outside of the creation of betterment for others. Take a look at his family foundation which, is a superbly dedicated force to be reckoned with in the world of giving. They are well versed in giving back to the arts which, not only entertains but, offers a cultural perspective of elegance to the world. Dick offers his own humble thanks for the recent publicity his family foundation’s charitable donations receieved.

I am incredibly grateful to my parents for initiating and encouraging by example the tradition of philanthropy within our family. We are happy to be a part of this great community!

In addition to the arts they have many other branches that their giving extends to and their organization is multifaceted offering a proclamation of goodness to many areas. Some of the reach extends to education, leadership and even to better the justice system in the country and around the world. They are a family that takes their monetary gift and spreads it among some of the most impoverished areas leading to nothing more than a whole lot of good and change in the world. It is something that many people wish for and think about but, even upon achieving never activate a call to service. The DeVos family has done more than activate they have made an impact on others who can also give back and make this world a much better place. When what a family does has an impact on others causing them to use their wealth to help others this world and the good in it only picks up speed.

New Crowdrise Campaign To Help Unwanted Animals

For the most part, animals especially cats are helpless creatures that rely on us for protection and love. We are meant to be their guardians and care for them no matter what the circumstance. Unfortunately not a lot of people see that as a part of life. People will keep a cat for a short amount of time and then decide they don’t want it. Perhaps it doesn’t fit with their lifestyle, they might just be sick of it, or they simply don’t want it anymore. Shelters become flooded with these abandon cats. They become overcrowded and the shelter has no other choice but to put them down because they can’t keep up with the influx. It’s sad and wrong.

That’s why Jon Urbana has a Crowdrise campaign to raise money for ARAS. ARAS is a no-kill cat shelter. That means that all those abandoned cats can stay in a loving place until they find their forever home. They won’t be put down because someone else didn’t want them. This safe place is in the Denver area, where Urbana lives. The shelter houses these cats and provides a loving environment of food, love, and most importantly safety. Cats are welcome here until they are adopted out into a caring home.

This nonprofit organization is now being supported by Jon Urbana. Urbana has been a long time supporter of animal rights and advocate against animal cruelty. Urbana cares for all creatures big and small. He is also a prominent figure in the flying community. Urbana can always be seen out and about in the Denver area, making a difference in a variety of ways. He runs a lacrosse camp called Next Level Lacrosse, and freelance photography also interests Urbana, which you can see on his Flickr page.

He used to play lacrosse professionally and it’s nice to see that he hasn’t let his talents, passion, or dedication to the sport go to waste. He now educates youth and teaches them the proper techniques.

Urbana is also a very well-respected businessman in the Denver area. He has made a name for himself through his entrepreneurial endeavors. He has does especially well in the areas of marketing and sales. Overall, Urbana hasn’t forgotten to care about others even though he’s made quite a name for himself.

Mr. Levenson, despite his later success, is from humble means. Mr. Levenson was born in Washington D.C. and grew up in Chevy Chase, Maryland. Mr. Levenson was born to a Jewish family which means that he has strong Jewish roots that still influence him in present day.

Mr. Levenson, after pursing a higher education from Washington University, eventually graduated law school from the prestigious, American University. Right after school, Mr. Levenson, along with his co-partner, Ed Peskowitz, began formulating ideas for their new company, the United Communications Group.

The United Communications Group was started in 1977 in the apartment of Mr. Levenson. What this company is based on is informing the public of the oil industry. This company would print out weekly newsletters that all had informative topics of current issues relating the oil industry.

Eventually, after the company picked up momentum, the United Communications Group integrated more an more newsletter. These later newsletters informed the public on hot topics that included the environment, energy, healthcare, telecommunications, technology, and many other industries. The United Communications Group also picked up many start up companies such as TechTarget. Mr. Levenson was previously one of the founding board members that sat on the Board of Directors.

One of Mr. Levenson’s most famous accomplishments is the fact that he was the previous co-owner of the Atlanta Hawks. While serving as one of the owners, Mr. Levenson played a large role in inspiring and helping the team. Mr. Levenson’s many accomplishments do not just involve business ventures, but also involve many involvements with charitable organizations. One of Mr. Levenson’s most generous donations go to an organization known as the I Have a Dream Foundation. This particular organization makes it possible for children who come from a low-income family, to pursue a higher education.

In addition to this, having strong Jewish roots, has lead him to be passionate about teaching others of the Holocaust. Mr. Levenson is a continuous donor to the museum as well as a continuous volunteer. Mr. Levenson believes deeply that he must be faithful to his roots and continue to educate others on the historic events that took place not too long ago.

The Changing Ownership of Atlanta Hawks

Bruce Levenson on is a renowned investor and an entrepreneur whose business acumen has put him on the limelight. He is best known for his ownership of an NBA enlisted basketball team, the Atlanta Hawks. He is a great fan of the hawks other than being part of the management team as a managing partner and a co-owner at the same time. Bruce has achieved a lot in his business career and he currently has a number of startup businesses under his name. Smart entrepreneurs are careful not to make losses in their investment and Bruce has done the same by diversifying his investments.

The Hawks is a team enlisted in the NBA league and it has been performing very well in the recent past. The team has however been on sale and currently there are two front-runners seeking ownership of the team although the process of purchasing it has become a long process. Investors seeking to place bids on the sale had up to the 10th of April to make their bids a deadline which was to be closed on its expiry date. During the period of sale, both the currently owners of the company and the investors interested in buying it had an agreement of non-disclosure.

During the period of sale, interested groups were holding meetings in the team’s city, Atlanta and during the process, only one group came out with full knowledge that it had lost the bid. Nonetheless the entire process was very competitive and all interested groups were fighting tooth and nail to get a chance in the purchase. This is why the process took too long from the date of the deadline which was set at 10th of April going on to June. The process took very long considering it had begun in September 2014.

The Atlanta Hawks has been under numerous changes of ownership with the recent resale being the latest. The sale begun soon after Bruce Levenson declared that he intended to sale his stakes last year September. The team has been performing very well considering their recent win of the Eastern Conference. With this performance, there are high expectations that the hawks will carry home the NBA championship title and if this comes to pass, there will be a slight confusion on whom to give the Larry O’Brien Trophy. Commentators and experts in the game suggested that the trophy is more likely to be handed to the current owners.

The sale of the team to different owners has taken too long and the only reason for this is the complexity involved in such a giant sell off. Of all the groups expressing their interest in the sale, only one group has raised concerns about the conditions of the Philips Arena which is included in the sale off. The group argues that the facility is not very well maintained and this could compromise the teams practice sessions and ultimately it’s performance.

The Amazing Tale of Yeoni Park

Yeoni Park early life was far from easy. She was born into a prominent North Korean family in 1993. When very young, Park began to recognize the true evil of the North Korean government. It was a government that sought to control every single aspect of a citizen and if that failed to work, execution. Her opinion first began to change when she watched the movie Titanic. She was inspired by Jack and Rose’ rebellion against the social system, giving up everything for love.

In addition, a family event instigated the escape. During a harsh famine, the New York Times states that in order to support his family her businessman father smuggled various goods into China. The North Korean government discovered this and forced him into a time of hard labor. He was sentenced to 17 years. However, after being tortured he became very ill and was given a medical release. The horrors he experienced during this imprisonment convinced him that his family need to move as soon as possible. After his release, Yeoni’s father told his family that they needed to flee North Korea. In 2007, through the assistance of various parties the Park family escaped, in the process experiencing extreme hardships: Her mother was raped, he sister disappeared, and her still very ill father died of cancer.

In the end, what remained of the family was relocated to Seoul, South Korea where her missing sister actually rejoined them five years after the fact. Yeoni still resides in South Korea and serves as a human rights activist. She has remained passionately committed to revealing the plight of those who still live under the reign of terror of the North Korean government. She tirelessly speaks at conferences and T.V. talk shows on behalf of North Korean refugees. In addition, she is about to become an author: Here book, In Order to Live: A North Korean Girls Journey to Freedom, is scheduled to be released this coming fall.

I recently read in the online DePauw that the now 21-year old Park will be telling her story at DePauw University this October. As advertised, this will be followed by a question-and-answer time and a book signing of her book which should be released by that time. At her very young age, Park is a veteran speaking before crowds. She has had many chances to do so since her defection, most notably at the Oslo Freedom Forum and the One Young World Summit. Park is so popular a speaker because she is able to eloquently recount the horrors of North Korean life and the amazing story of her family’s escape. She has become such a capable activist at the young age of 21, that she is widely considered one of the best living activists in the world.

Taxi Firm Celebrates A Treasured Customer’s 100th Birthday With Her

Central Taxi, of Edinburgh Scotland, has taken weekly calls for taxi pick ups from Christine Gibson for 30 years. The taxi firm has become like family for Christine, and she tips drivers generously every week with a pound and a sweet treat.

Christine Gibson can do most things for herself, but styling her hair is something she prefers others to do for her, so every Saturday she contacts Central Taxi for a ride to Muse Hairdressing in Edinburgh. When drivers at Central Taxi found out that Christine Gibson’s 100th birthday was coming up they sprung into action and contacted Muse Hairdressing regarding having flowers and champagne waiting for Christine on her birthday. Christian Broda has read that Christine Gibson was “absolutely gobsmacked” when she saw her birthday surprise. She lives alone and thought she would be spending her 100th birthday alone without much fuss. Read More About Christine And Her Surprise Party Here.

After champagne and her hair appointment, Christine was driven back to Central Taxi’s new headquarters and given a tour. She got to meet staff who had taken her calls over the years, and even donned a headset and dispatched a few taxi calls herself, an all around wonderful way to spend a birthday!

High School Students Practice What Is Preached To Them

A high school age Sunday School class from the First Presbyterian Church of Richland decided that they had heard enough about what Jesus would do. They wanted to do something positive themselves, something Jesus would do. Students conducted a clothing drive at their church and collected over 100 items. Things like jackets, scarves, packages of socks, and mittens were collected. The students tagged the donated items with the words “I am not lost. If you are stuck out in the cold, please take this to keep warm. Your friends at First Presbyterian Church of Richland.” They then hung the clothing on trees throughout Bronson Park in Kalamazoo,MI. Read More About This Heartwarming Story Here

Kids can get bored going to church. They often tune out and don’t listen to what is being preached. They may wonder what the point of it all is, and start having questions about their own spirituality. According to Daniel Amen, a great way to keep kids involved and active in their church is to give them purpose. The story above is a wonderful way to show Jesus’ love at work, while keeping kids focused on serving others. Actively serving others will teach kids large life lessons regarding Jesus and what Jesus would do, lessons they might not learn as easily while sitting in a pew.

Occidental College President Johnathan Veitch: Leading Into the Future

Johnathan Vietch is the current president of Occidental College in Los Angeles, California. He has been in office since July 1st, 2009, when he took over from interim president Robert Skothiem. Before that point, he served as the dean of Eugene Lang College, a liberal arts college that is a part of the New School in Greenwich Village. Vietch is also the author of American Superrealism: Nathanael West and the Politics of Representation in the 1930s, which was published in 1997 and hailed as “a landmark in literary and cultural studies.” He attended Stanford University for his undergraduate studies, and Harvard for his doctoral degree in History of American Civilization.

During his tenure at Occidental College thus far, Vietch has notably improved relations with the community around the campus, responding to the concerns about expansion into residential areas by sharply curtailing the spread of University-owned property into the neighborhood, instead relying on existing buildings to meet the needs of the college. He has taken steps toward making the college more energy efficient by installing a 1 megawatt ground-mounted solar array, which generates around 11% of the energy used on campus annually.

He has also overseen the construction of a new alumni center, as well as the extensive renovations of Swann Hall, Johnson Hall, and the Johnson Student Center. A strategic plan has been outlined for the continued growth of the college community into the future, utilizing the skills and shared commitment of faculty, students, trustees, and staff. Vietch has additionally shown a commitment to expanding the college’s network by partnering with other institutions, notably UCLA and East Los Angeles College. During a recent controversy involving a series of sexual assaults on campus, he remained committed to balancing campus safety against the privacy and autonomy of the victims, proving to be an effective leader during times of crisis as well as during times of relative calm.

Veight currently lives on campus in Wallis Annenberg President’s House, along with his wife Sarah and their three children.
